THE WORLD OF CHICORA

Introduction:
In the Homeland, the civilized races (humans, elves, dwarves, folke, and gnomes) were on the verge of extinction from invading orc hordes from the Gobian Plains. The civilized races were not the only ones suffering, as virtually the entire continent of Gaea was under duress from the orcs. An unlikely alliance of dragons and civilized races was forged. United under Thranos, an aged golden dragon, the united civilized races fought back the orc hordes.

The alliance between dragons and the races is based on the Contract of Gileon, which states that the golden dragons and races of human, elves, dwarves, gnomes, and folke would work together as long as the pact was mutually beneficial. It is almost two thousand years later, and the children of Thranos still rule the civilized races, however, not as one. Thranos' seven spawn differed in their theories of governance, and the Seven Kingdoms formed almost before Thranos cremation.

The Seven Kingdoms vie for position in the Homelands, making alliances and even warring against each other. Without an exception, the Seven Kingdoms have worked together to defend against any mutual threat, including fending off two more waves of orc invasion.

As the Seven Kingdoms settled down into a hundred year peace (The Second Pax Dracona), two significant events have altered the course of history: the discovery of the Wild Lands across the Great Sea, and the spawning of a third generation of dragons from several of the kingdoms. Three of the Seven Kingdoms (Aug, Cardessi, and Esana) have elected to send their newborn dragons as head of colonies in the Wild Lands, competing for territory and resources, with remaining Seven Kingdoms watching closely for their sister kingdoms to succeed or fail.

The Thirteen Dragons:
The thirteen children of Aug are adolescent and ruling colonies on the seaboard of the Wild Lands. The southernmost colony is Praxis City, set in the territory of Chicora, the name the native human tribal nation of Cacica call the surrounding lands. Chicora's colony is named after its dragon, Praxis. The colonists tend to refer to Chicora as the Wild Lands.

Setting:
Praxis is located on a raised peninsula, surrounded by a marshy coastal plain, with rolling sand hills to the northwest and mountains beyond. To the south, the green dragon Glith commands hordes of kobolds, lizardfolk, trogdolyte, and other reptilian races. To the northwest, the native human tribal federation of Cacica has an uneasy alliance with Praxis, which mostly consists of trading and promised mutual protection against the Glith. However, the Cacica were mistreated by failed colonies of Cardessi and Esana, and harbor mistrust for the Praxians as well, encouraged by mistreatment by greedy and unethical traders. To the northeast, a suspicious Centaur nation has wagged intermediate minor conflicts with the Cacica tribes for generations, and they mistrust the new intrusion of humans equally. Further to the northwest, the Misty Mountains are the source of much local legend, containing both unimagined treasure and goblinoid hordes. Further north up the coast is the Augian colony of Roanoke. Further south of Praxis, the Esana colony of Augustine is rumored to be negotiating an alliance with Glith, and to the west, human rangers and traders from Cardessi explore and trade with the natives.
