DWARVES
The Dwarves of Chicora, or Niebling as their fellow Northlanders call them, are much like the dwarves of any world. They are short, bearded, and put the "gr" in grim. They prefer their underground warrens, and generally avoid living topside, unless extreme circumstances.
The dwarves found in Chicora are the children of exiles. In the Year of the Dragon 1066, the Second Clan War drew to its bloody conclusion. After decades of battle, the so-called Crown Clans finally defeated the rebellious Forge Clans, and took their holdings as their own, exiling the Forge veterans from under the Dragon Tooth Mountain Range. These exiles were dispersed to the Seven Kingdoms. Many died bitter deaths, claimed of homesickness. Others took the chance to travel to the Wild Lands, to look for new mountains to call their own.
Since the closest mountains to Praxis City are the Misty Mountains, there are very few dwarves in Praxis. Roanoake, the colony to the North, has a much larger population of dwarves. The few dwarves in Praxis are looked after by the small Noble House of Manian. The dwarves maintain a small catapult company and a company of engineers for the Town Watch, both militia units. When the dwarven stonemason or blacksmith has a lot of work - as when the cathedral floor of Saint Kord's was destroyed by the rising dead - one dwarf makes a "call of honor" for all dwarves, and they go pitch in and help (for compensation, if available.) A large number of dwarves are unemployed, waiting for the next call to honor, drinking and reminiscing what times would have been like if the Forge Clans had won the Great War. A few, though, find meager jobs as guards, or scribes.
It is not uncommon for a dwarf to convert to Trugod, in fact, the Chapel of Saint Murphy at the Keep and in Roanoake are ran by dwarven clergy. Many dwarves, however, stick to their old religion.
Dwarves that are known throughout Praxis include the Priest Mountainroot, who lead an expedition to establish Fort Laramie. Lord Captain Mently Manian is the head of the House of Manian, a taciturn fellow who throws himself to any work at hand. And there is Grundy Thorkenshield, the runescribe at the Doom Lounge who will write letters to your loved ones for a few coins. Common dwarven hangouts include the Dragon Tooth Tavern.
