MERCENARY GUILDS

Danger Guild

"So ze needs to hire some extra muscle? Ze can always look for zee out-of-work dwarf, or zee former Town Watchman, but why not go professional? Our sentries and bodyguards are all of zee finest Northlander stock. Services can be arranged at zee Poison Apple Tavern, Second Watch only. All services are open for negotiation by zee guild to compensate for additional risk. Services limited to Humans, Elves, Half-Elves, Dwarves, Gnome, and Folke. Ze reserve the right to refuse or overcharge arrogant customers." - Jakta Legare, Guildmaster

The Guardian League

"So you've met Jakta Legare? Despite the fact he's an arrogant Cadessi scoundrel, his Guild has growing respect in the community. What gets Legare's goat the most is the recent competition from the Guardian League. They had a lot of opponents in the Town Council, but now the Half-Orcs have their own guild, the second after the Longshoreman got organized.

"The new guild of Half-Orc sentries, bodyguards, and the occasional scout was organized by a merc named Bone. Although they are cheaper than the Danger Guild, the Half-Orc Guardians are subject to intense prejudice. They are not allowed to be outside the Orc Quarter or to carry arms without a permit. They can't even be in some sections of the city.

"Danger Guild refuses to work with anyone who employs Guardians, and have been accused of actively sabotaging Guardian security.

"They are used rarely by anyone higher in social status than the lowest level of merchants. One notable exception is Nok, the bodyguard of Lady Reagan. The House of Mudd is also one of the few Noble Houses willing to use Guardians as caravan guides. Many believe that Half-Orcs in the Wild Lands will run off and join the bandit Maroons, and pose a threat to society. This belief prevents most other Noble Houses from taking advantage of their lower rates.

"The Guardians are also welcomed by the Folke of Millshire, who employ a Guardian named Honesty as their sheriff.

"For hire, ask around at Eddie's Tattoo Shop, or if you dare venture into the Orc Quarter, try the Orc Cafe. Good fortune be with you!" - Jot Savage
