THE SAINTS OF CHICORA

To become an orthodox saint in the religion of Trugod, a person (or creature) has to fulfill the following criteria, as determined by the Celestial Council in Madessa: to be an sentient mortal (and not celestial in origin - worshiping angels is strongly looked down upon), to be a true believer in the faith of Trugod, to embody the teachings of the Church, to do wondrous deeds in their lifetime, to gather followers to their cause, and to continue to intercede for their followers after their deaths, as determined by proven miracles. The Celestial Council sends out Celestial Investigators to determine if canonization should occur; but their findings do not always discourage followers from their saint. The saints not canonized by the Celestial Council, but still followed, are known as the "Unorthodox Saints."

St. Lavard Kord, Human Patron Saint of the Kingdom of Aug. Domains Earth, Luck, and War. Clerics: Lawful good to chaotic good, lawful neutral.

Before the coming of Thranos, the Contract of Gileon, and before the dragons ruled the Seven Kingdoms of the Homelands, the Kingdom of Aug had periods in its history when it was under constant attack from its neighbors. In this time, Lavard Kord, son of King Ectohad the Good, was made Duke of Battlesea (present day capital of Aug), famous for hosting games of chance for his subjects. He fought back Northlander raids into the nearby province of Axewood, and then resigned his title and holdings to follow Saint Vicelin. He served as a missionary throughout all of Aug, teaching new agricultural practices from Madessa. He returned to battle in legendary fashion during the Invasion of Tusmit by the Cadessi Vanguard. During one stage of the campaign, he won the retreat of the Cadessi General from the city of Tusmit through throwing dice. He then began an order of warrior priests, fighting against the Wizard Jaista and his hordes of Earth elementals. After Ectohad's death, his Uncle Nils took the throne, and was warned by a village adept from Banewood Hamlet that Kord's followers would one day dispose him. Nils panicked, and had his son, Kord's cousin Skadelaar, murder him. Kord's prestige only increased after his death, and both Shadelaar and Nils were disposed by the Kord's followers, lead by his disciple, the monk Saint Idarian. Barely a generation later, the Church of Trugod canonized Kord. Clerics of Aug specialize in warfare, training and practice, as well as fighting creatures of the earth, and luck. There are four gaming days, at each change of the seasons, held by clerics of Saint Kord. Most other forms of gambling are illegal in Aug and its colonies, bringing great profits and risk to those criminal organizations that organize gambling rings. The Creed of Kord stresses protection of innocents. (Based in great part on the life of Saint Canute Lavard) A disciple of Kord, the paladin known as Knud, is credited for establishing the Church of St. Kord in Praxis City, the first in the Wildland colonies.

Saint Idarian (Domains: Protection, Secret, Good). Human Patron Saint of Order of Idarian (Monks) in the Kingdom of Aug and Beyond. Clerics: Good to Lawful Neutral

Born of wealthy merchants in the northern province of Crescent, he distributed their wealth upon their death and became of follower of St. Kord. Sometime after the defeat of evil Wizard Jaista, Saint Idarian became a hermit in a tomb in a cemetery near Crescent. He lived a life of prayer, penance, and only ate bread and water once a day, as well as battling the occasional undead. He engaged in struggles and temptations from a powerful devil that became legendary. Then Kord was murdered by his cousin. Returning to the side of his slain master, Idarian rallied his followers, and brought justice to Shadelaar and King Nils. Afterwards, Idarian retired to an abandoned fort in his home province of Crescent, living in complete solitude and seeing no one, eating only what was thrown to him over the wall of the fort. After twenty years, he emerged to organize in Crescent the first monastical order in the Kingdom of Aug. He became famous all over the Homelands, and was consulted by creatures from all walks of life, from Thranos to the humblest peasant. He was greatly esteemed also for his high degree of confidentially, and his priests are often sought out for confessional purposes. Idarian's clerics wear purple robes, and are known as the Keeper of Secrets. Idarian clerics have given their lives on more than one occasion to safeguard what they consider sacred; the privacy of their followers. Clerics of Idarian are few, though, as most of his most faithful followers are monks. The Monasteries of St. Idarian are often found close to Churches of St. Kord. A prestige class is also associated with St. Idarian. Some of their followers join the very mysterious Order of the Slayer, monks dedicated to destroying undead.

Saint Yondalla - Patron Saint of Halflings, Domain: Good , Law, Protection

Born the daughter of farmers in Great Shire, before the forming of the Kingdom of Aug, Yondalla was canonized by the Celestial Council, despite having lived and died long before the Council was formed. Yondalla heard the Trugod faith through halfling missionaries, and became a believer, converting many of her shire. She is followed in shires throughout the Homelands, not limited to the Kingdom of Aug. She is credited for turning back a multitude of gnoll raiders, causing them to flee across the Great Sea. Her creed stresses the importance of a safe home and loving family, and rising to any challenges to each.

Saint Charity - Unorthodox Saint of Peacekeepers Domain: Good, Healing Alignment: Mostly Chaotic Good

Unorthodox because of her half-celestial roots, Charity was a gold dragon that often appeared as a beautiful brunette elven maiden. Many of her few followers claim to have been personally assisted by Charity, or seen her. Charity's followers are further shun because of their "radical" doctrine. The followers of Saint Charity are the peacekeepers; they are willing to make peace with any race, civilized or monster, and their lifestyle resembles a commune. They prize peace above all, and refuse to be involved in combat unless in self-defense.

Saint Murphy - an unorthodox saint who has very few clerics, but many among the commoners give credence to the gnome. St. Murphy's view of cosmology is that the underlying principle of the universe's design is absurdity. He is often invoked when things go wrong, which in his view is the natural order of things. Considered a "folk saint", he has never been seriously considered by the Celestial Council, although their official reason is the lack of miracles ascribed to his name.
